Welcome to Creating a Family

I believe that every child deserves a family,
and
every family deserves a child

ChildrenFor many people, the road to parenthood is a bumpy one, and they need help in creating their family.  This site provides resources and support for this alternative journey.

What you will not find here is judgment.  I don't believe one way of building your family is better than another.  Infertility treatment is not superior to adoption.  Adoption isn't more noble than staying in treatment.  Using your own eggs with IVF is not necessarily better than using donor eggs.  Domestic adoption is not superior to international adoption, and vice versa.  Adopting from Ethiopia is great, but there are great kids in Louisiana, Thailand, New York, Taiwan, and California as well.  Foster care adoption is a wonderful way to add a child to your family, but it's not for everyone.  You get the picture.

I believe information is power, and with enough information you will make the best decision for your family.  This website and radio show will give you some of the information you need. I hope you find this a safe place to explore your options.

If you are just beginning, check out the resource pages under Adoption and Infertility.  Look through the list of old Creating a Family radio shows and listen to a few.  If you are interested in international adoption, check out the country charts under the adoption tab for the top placing countries listing the 25 factors I think parents should consider when choosing a country.  I list many books for adoption and infertility that can help you along the way, and I particularly specialize in books explaining adoption and infertility to kids.

All profits from this website and my consulting will be donated to March of Dimes (prematurity), Worldwide Orphans Foundation (orphanage support in Ethiopia, Bulgaria, and Vietnam), Orphans Resources (orphanage support in Guatemala), and Half the Sky (orphange support and preschool education in China).
